Local SEO for dentists: win the Google Maps 3 pack
For “dentist near me” searches, Google shows a map with three practices before any regular result. Most patients call one of those three. Local SEO is the work that gets your practice into that box for the neighborhoods you serve.

Who this is for
- Practices missing from the Google Maps 3 pack nearby
- Offices in crowded neighborhoods with many similar competitors
- New practices building a local presence from zero
Why most practices struggle here
The map results are decided by three things: how relevant your profile is to the search, how close you are to the searcher, and how prominent your practice looks online through reviews, citations and your website. You can't move your office, but relevance and prominence are very much in your control.
Many practices lose map rankings to inconsistent addresses across directories, a Google Business Profile with the wrong primary category, too few recent reviews, or a website that never mentions the neighborhood patients actually search for.
What's included
Google Business Profile optimization
Categories, services, attributes, photos, hours and description set up the way Google's local algorithm reads them.
Citation cleanup and building
Your name, address and phone made consistent on the directories and data aggregators Google cross checks.
Neighborhood targeting
Location pages and on site signals for the areas around your office that patients actually search.
Review velocity
A simple, compliant system for asking happy patients for reviews, so fresh reviews arrive every week.
Local link and mention building
Sponsorships, community pages and local organizations that give Google proof you're part of the area.
Map rank tracking
Grid based tracking that shows where you appear in the map pack block by block, not just at your front door.
How it works
- Map visibility scanSee where you rank in the map pack across your service area today, street by street.
- Profile and citation fixesCorrect categories, data and inconsistencies that quietly hold rankings back.
- Reviews and local signalsStart a steady review flow and add neighborhood content and local mentions.
- Expand the radiusPush rankings outward into neighboring areas month by month.
How success is measured
- Map pack positions across a grid of your area
- Calls and direction requests from Google
- Review count and freshness
- Citation consistency
Reported monthly in plain English, next to what was done and what comes next.
What to expect
Profile and citation fixes can move map rankings within weeks. Growing your visible radius into busier neighborhoods is gradual and depends on review momentum and competition. You'll see the change on a map grid every month.

Sobhan, dental SEO & marketing specialist
I'm Sobhan, a marketing specialist who works only with dental practices. For the past three years every site, Google profile and campaign I've worked on has belonged to a dentist, an orthodontist or a dental specialist.
I also built and run Dent Directory, the independent directory you're on right now. It tracks the Google ratings, review volume, hours and treatments of thousands of practices, which is why my audits start from real local data instead of guesses.

Why practices work with me
3 years, dental SEO only
I don't split my attention between restaurants, lawyers and dentists. For three years every campaign, keyword list and page template I've built has been about how patients choose a dentist.
I built the directory you're reading
Dent Directory tracks 7,300+ dental practices across Los Angeles, Orange County, Ventura County, Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth: their ratings, reviews, hours and treatments. I know which neighborhoods are crowded, which treatments are under served and what the top ranked offices do differently.
Plain English reporting
Every month you see calls, booking requests, rankings and what changed, in language you can read in five minutes. No 40 page PDFs full of impressions.
You own everything
Your website, Google Business Profile, ad accounts, content and data stay in your name. If we ever part ways, nothing is held hostage.
Local SEO & Google Maps FAQs
What is the Google Maps 3 pack?
It's the block of three businesses with a map that Google shows for local searches like “dentist near me” or “emergency dentist Santa Monica”. It sits above the regular results and takes a large share of the calls.
Why does my practice rank on the map at the office but not a mile away?
Distance matters, but prominence and relevance can extend your reach. More reviews, stronger citations, better categories and location relevant content push your visibility outward.
Can I rank in a neighborhood where I don't have an office?
In the map pack, only in nearby areas. For farther neighborhoods, well built location pages on your website can rank in regular results instead.
Is it okay to ask patients for reviews?
Yes, asking is fine and encouraged. What isn't allowed is offering incentives or filtering who gets asked. I set up a compliant process that asks every patient in a friendly, low effort way.
